Long Distance Phone Calls

For centuries we have remained connected through voice and text, in the face of impossible distance. Long Distance Phone Calls is an evening of poetry that reminds us of the oratory ability to collapse physical space. Prepare to hear campfire stories told in colossal scale, performed from one side of the Great Town Hall to the other. A night that is as intimate as it is resonant.

Programmed by Vanessa Crofskey and MC'd by Grace Taylor (Full Broken Bloom, Afakasi Speaks), the show features some of Auckland's best writers including Manu Vaea (FAFSWAG), Kyla Dela Cruz (Mouth:Tongue:Teeth), Stevie Davis-Tana (South Auckland Poet's Collective), Phodiso Dintwe (Rising Voices), the girls of Ngā Puna O Waiōrea (Word - The Frontline Interschool Slam Champions 2018) and renowned performance poet Carrie Rudzinski (4th place at the Women of the World Poetry Slam 2014).
