Maggie Cocco’s Science For Sociopaths

As part of the Auckland Fringe Festival, American singer-songwriter Maggie Cocco will perform in collaboration with live painter, Olivia Garelja, in what will be an emotional, multi-sensory, and interactive experiment.

Maggie Cocco’s Science for Sociopaths is brave, vulnerable, and fierce.

Her neo-mellow songs stem from the lineage of America’s rich singer-songwriter culture - Carole King is a common comparison - while her dynamic vocals range in expression from powerhouse to Disney princess. Intimate solo piano arrangements allow the songwriting to take centre stage. In performance, Maggie holds a room with a combination of sincere vulnerability, levity, and mesmerizing musicality.

Olivia Garelja is an intuitive multi-disciplined creative.

An Oratia native, Olivia Garelja is a muralist, photographer, and team leader based in Whangarei, Northland. Her interest lies in how we interpret and reflect the world around us through intuitive expression. Olivia's live painting for this project will be unplanned so as to channel the intrinsic emotion of the music in real time.

This show features a 10-song cycle detailing the course of a relationship. Audience members will be invited to express themselves on the same canvas as the artist at regular intervals throughout the performance. The resultant artwork will be auctioned for charity.

*Note: the venue will be carefully dressed in advance to avoid any painting accidents. Please have the same consideration for your clothes!
